On our journey from Florence to Rome, we made a delightful stop at a charming winery in the Umbrian countryside for lunch and wine tasting. It was a highlight of the tour for our entire family. The breathtaking views, exquisite wine and the tranquility of those few hours were exactly what we needed.

Exploring Rome with Rick Steves' Tours

To truly make the most of your time in Rome, you need an experienced guide. Tina and Matti ensured we enjoyed the highlights of the city by planning the best times to visit each site, allowing us to avoid the crowds. But it wasn't just about seeing the sights; we immersed ourselves in the rich history and vibrant culture of Rome. Learning about the stories behind each landmark elevated our vacation to a whole new level, making it an unforgettable experience.

Teens' Favorite Part of the Tour in Rome

If you agree that visiting the Umbrian winery is part of the Rome activities, then the kids will tell you that it was their favorite Rome tour activity. They could relax, play with the winery dog, go underground in the Etruscan tunnels and enjoy the surrounding nature.

The kids absolutely loved all the impressive attractions of Rome including the Colosseum, Basilica and the Trevi Fountain. The Sistine Chapel was beautiful and you could spend an entire day going through the Vatican museums but it was a bit too crowded for the kids liking. Their favorite additional things we did in Rome were visiting the Trastevere neighborhood, touring the Capuchin Crypt and leisurely strolls around the city. We kept our promise to Gavin by treating him to McDonald's in Rome, which he was thrilled about!

Additional Activities We Did as a Family

  • Largo di Torre Argentina (cat sanctuary)

  • Piazza Venezia

  • Mamertine Prision (you know we love a prision)

  • Victor Emmanuel Monument (take the elevator to the top)

  • Colosseum Underground Tour

  • Borghese Museum

  • Twilight Trastevere Food Tour (highly recommended)

  • Capuchin Crypt (a teen favorite)

  • Baths of Caracalla

  • Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel

  • Roam around Rome

Rome Logistics

The lodging and food were, as always, exceptional. Our guides assisted all tour members in planning their departures, ensuring we chose the best time to leave and the most efficient route to the airport. The thing was, no one wanted the tour to be over.
