Exploring Venice with Rick Steves' Tours

Venice was undoubtedly our favorite city on the tour. Our experience would have been vastly different without the insights and cultural immersion provided by the Rick Steves' tour. The education provided and the knowledge we gained truly enhanced our appreciation of this beautiful city.

St. Mark's Square

St. Mark's Square in Venice is a breathtaking destination that captures the essence of this enchanting city. We were surrounded by stunning architecture, including the iconic St. Mark's Basilica, the square is a vibrant hub of activity.

Walking Tour of Venice

A local guide took us on an exceptional educational walking tour of the back streets of Venice, including a tour of the Venice markets.

Accademia

We toured the Accademia with a local guide learning about the works of Titian, Veronese, Bellini, Tintoretto and many more artists. The Virgin Mary became our new best friend.

Burano and Torcello Islands

We took a private boat to the islands of Burano and Torcello. We ate lunch on Burano and explored the colorful island during our free time. On the way back we visited the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta on Torcello.

Teens' Favorite Part of the Tour in Venice

You hear Rick say it all the time but the best thing to do is to get lost in the back streets of Venice. The kids loved both the guided tours by the Rick Steves' tour guides and walking the streets without a formal plan.

We arrived three days before the tour. We crammed a lot in to our vacation in Venice. Although they were all wonderful places to see, we would pick half to do all over again. We would prefer more relaxing and meandering instead of hustling.

  • Visited the Migrant Child Mural

  • Campanile Bell Tower (easy elevator ride to the top with a caged viewing area)

  • St. Doges Palace/Bridge of Sighs (kids loved touring the prison)

  • Musica a Palazzo/Opera

  • Ca'Rezzonico Museum

  • Peggy Guggenheim Collection (kids' favorite museum in Venice)

  • Vivaldi Concert at the San Vidal Church

  • Building Bridges (hard to get to)

  • Jewish Ghetto Tour

  • St. Mark's Basilica

  • Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute​

  • Look at where the gondolas are made
